Just a very short rant......

I must say how boggled my mind is by all the blatant theft going on in the pattern world....I've been enlightened to a few things by all of this , though...
1). My patterns are apparently not worth paying high prices for, that is why I need to sell then dirt cheap,if they were quality patterns folks would be willing to pay more ( a statement made to me by a very well known doll pattern designer...
2).I am obviously not in the same "league" as many of the other pattern designers are...otherwise I may have gotten at least a response when commenting or asking a question about the situation that had been going on ....ooops, I forgot about the negative comment above ....
Wow...I've been a little bummed by the negative response and then the lack of response.... I support these talented folks 100% and they are all within their rights to feel the way they do and proceed with whatever recourse they need to... this does affect me also...I'm not delusional, I know my reputation and talent are no where up there with some of them, but I seriously felt as if I was a low life outsider when I had an opinion or comment ...
Just feeling low...sorry guys ...It's just that I've been doing this in some form or another since 2002...Ten years is a long time to be working at something and still not even be considered worthy to include in conversation....hmmmmm
Well, God Bless them and I hope this is resolved and the pirating of patterns stops !!

  1. Personally speaking here gurlfren, I think you have LOADS of talent ~ more than I have. I've tried my hand at doll pattern making and it didn't go too well so stopped after my Uncle Sam doll. I still do make dolls but it isn't as much fun as hooking.

You're a winner in my eyes.

I think people are afraid to say anything . I did ..and
was surprised ..at the lack of support for the designers .

Let's hope it stops ..soon !

  3. Don't underestimate yourself. I have bought your patterns, as I'm sure have many other stitchers. And you are most generous with your talent, offering freebies, doodle booklets, and rug patterns on veil as cost-savers for your customers. You are a designer, and don't let anyone tell you any different. ... jan

  4. OMGosh Robin...DO NOT TAKE THESE COUPLE OF COMMENTS TO HEART...PLEASE.
You are a very talented lady and your designs are up there with the best...YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST IN MY OPINION.
The one's who are making these kinds of remarks are intimidated by GREAT DESIGNERS...I pity them with their lack of niceness (that's the only word I can come up with....lol)
I don't know why people have to steal others designs and also make remarks - it's a shame. We are all in this together.
    Sorry you are bummed...SMILE LADY!!!!
    big hugs,

  6. I thank you ladies Jan, Saundra, Karen and Mandy ( by the way a very NICE and talented pattern designer !!...:) )I am going to be very honest here and say yes...I admit this post is written to just get a big hug from as many of my friends as possible...I'm not out to get my ego stroked,,,,I just need to hear from folks that I'm ok , and my designs and patterns aren't junk... I put alot into my doll patterns especially with all of the detailed drawings and I even type out the directions on the drawn out pattern pieces...no hand writing...typed text !!
ohhhh shooot....sorry I get blah and take things to heart...I guess I need thicker skin....

  7. your patterns are far from junk..I can't believe anyone would say this to you..honestly I think some of "those so called designers" that sell an e-pattern for $15.00 is outrageous in my opinion..I am using my ink and paper for crying out loud..I won't purchase those as I think its robbery..again my opinion..I think some of these folks have let their success go to their heads..I love your patterns and you are a very generous gal in my opinion..have you seen these other designers offering a freebie or anything for that matter? probably not as they are too greedy..thats why their patterns are too highly priced in my opinion..pooh on them..you just keep doing what you are doing.;)

  8. I checked mine and no one stole mine, lol.
I am happy to be an unknown designer, low key, no stress and I do what makes me happy. And I won't even comment on those who thing they are "real" or better designers;)

  10. Man, I wish people would stop being so high and mighty to others!! Your patterns are wonderful and you should, and I hope ARE, proud of them. If they were "junk" we would not be seeing so many crafters using them!!Some people just can't be NICE!!--Jan

  11. Hi Robin ~
I just finished reading your post...and If it was me who didn't respond to you I SO apologize!! Since I posted about this situation, I have received literally HUNDREDS of emails, comments and such from folks that are totally pissed about this...if I overlooked you I sincerely apologize, it's just that I have been extremely busy these past few days...

I am appalled that someone would intentionally not respond to someone else, let alone tell a person thet their work is considered 'cheap' or not in the same league as other designers....it makes me sick that people judge the way they do.

I just wanted to let you know that I love your work, and I truly think you are a brilliant primitive designer who deserves much exposure & success in the needlearts industry.

  13. I have not been following anything on what you mention in your post. But I have purchased two of your doodle booklets and like them very much. I have not purchased a doll type pattern and cannot speak on that. Keep on doodling. I also appreciate the free doodles.

  14. Robin your work is and always has been very special and delightful...I am sorry someone wants to think her work is better than yours...

I think maybe folks aren't commenting because they are felling guilty about past copies to/from friends...

Don't give that loser one more minute of your time...you are valued far too much by the rest of us...

If you could email me the name of the offending designer I would greatly appreciate so I don't give her a cent of my money...

  15. Robin,
You are a great designer and a wonderful person!!!! I'm going right now to buy your lastest booklet. Please don't let them get you down!!!

  16. You know how "mean girls" are, they think they are all that... lol YOur patterns are beautiful and SO ARE YOU! Like my Dad always said " tell em to scratch their a*s and git glad!"

  17. Oh, and another thing (did you hear my outside voice?)....adults aren't beyond bullying either obviously. And could also be that by belittling someone else makes them feel superior.

I've looked at your designs, which I find adorable and ask myself..... why the h&ll can't I do something like that? Keep on doing what you're doing.

    Saundra

  18. Glad the meanies think they are all that because honestly people need big Ego's to hurt others to make themselves feel better.Your designs are wonderful and I'm sure plenty of people are stealing your patterns as well just not doing the selling thing because you sell yours at reasonable prices that people can afford thus no need for a crafter to pirate from another source. Not that most do but the ones that do I'm sure are high dollar otherwise.Chin up and big hug for you!~Amy

  19. My oh my Robin.... Reading your post and everyone's responses, well that should make you feel better! In my honest opinion, if someone has to openly tell you the things that you have written, it just tells me one thing. They are jealous! If they weren't, they wouldn't say it. Why should they even bother? You would be no competition, right? Take those words as a Huge form of flattery instead of negativity, and run with your talent. I wish I had a quarter of it! You are very generous, your mind is constantly thinking of new things, you just never stop. I say Koodles!! Keep it up, and your talents will continually be Blessed. Hugs to you!

  20. Hi Robin,
You know I love your talent. I have purchased several of your doll patterns and find them well written, easy to follow and very user friendly. Beginners, as well as seasoned crafters can use your patterns!
Some of the pattern makers out there should get a grip! They have let their egos get the best of them! I don't think it's right to resell patterns for personal gain but I've seen that for years~ it's not something that has just started. And I agree with some of your other commenters that if they'd lower their prices to a reasonable fee they'd not have as much piracy.
As for sharing between friends (which I don't do)but to me is like sharing a novel or great magazine. They are all copy written right.
I really hope that this issue comes to an end, frankly I'm tired of reading about it and know that there are other designers who probably feeling the same as you.
Keep your chin up! You are a wonderful designer and a person with a generous heart.
    Blessings,
    Jean

Oh my..How sad that anyone would feel compelled to deminish anyone's talent..I love your work..I won one of your giveaways (the snowman with the ice skate) and I can't even begin to tell you how many people commented on it this Christmas season when I had it displayed in my home..I even kept it out for the winter season..You truly have a God given talent..I am always amazed when I see there is a post from you and what you come up with..Keep creating and designing..Sending you a BIG hug..

  23. I wish I wasn't replying on my phone....hard to get in everything I want to say. I truly feel you are a great designer ......everyone has their own style and is ridiculous to say anybody is better or not than anyone else is crazy. I have supported so many doll, quilt, craft people over the years. I am "pattern poor" as they say. I personally would boycott anyone who feels they are better than anyone else. Just know Robin you and your designs are loved. I just wish I had more time to get to them. Christine

  28. I am a total newbie to this entire thing, but I must say that your designs are beautiful, and they make me smile. You are most certainly talented, and it takes a very mean spirited person to say the things that were said to you. I pray you will let these comments pass off of you & fall to the ground where you can trod on them! Judging by your blogs comments you are well loved and appreciated! That you can store in your spiritual bank! I hope this situation resolves soon. God Bless you!

  29. Hon, I've been following you for awhile, and while I can't afford to purchase any patterns right now, you are on my list for future purchases. You are an extremely talented designer, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Crafty types like me who don't have a lot of funds are oh so grateful for designers who don't charge an arm, leg and firstborn for a pattern. I won't buy, on principle, from a designer who thinks so highly of their own talents that they charge so much! You've also been incredibly generous with your free patterns, and I thank you for that too.

Don't let anyone make you feel less than. You are a Designer. Period. Wear the title proudly, girl, your talent knows no bounds!

  30. I have purchased several of your patterns also and I love everything you design... your patterns are fun, your designs are great and your prices are affordable. I still intend to purchase some for our store.. just waiting until things come around a bit. I also agree totally that some of these designers are asking way to much for their E-patterns. Your prices are great and I wouldn't change a thing if I were you. Keep up the great work Robin and don't let anyone discourage you! You can see by all the comments to your post that you have many fans out here in blog land!
    Hugs, Deb

  31. ROBIN ROBIN ROBIN !!!
This is bull puckey and I WILL NOT stand for you feeling this way!!!
I've been doing this for probably longer than most.Pushin' 4 decades now!!! Built a name out there for awhile till I became too ill to go & do shows. Then I had to start from scratch again & try selling on online. It's been MANY years now & even though I ALWAYS have things for sale & my very exisitance depends on earning money since I'm alone now,I STILL haven't built a "name"
Now here's the thing. How mant patterns have I bought from you!!!???!!! There's a hooked rug on the sidebar of my blog right now that I hooked from one of your designs!!!! I TOTALLY appreciate your prices SO much!!! I realize nobody really cares, but I've said it MANY times, but I honestly feel that some designers prices for e=patterns have become really out of line.I can't afford to buy them.
AND young lady, just look at the # of comments you've received!!!! I've NEVER received even HALF this amount of comments on my blog,no matter WHAT I've posted!!!! I always allow people time to have their pity parties,it's only human, but your's is DONE NOW!!!!
And about that doll designer, give me the bee-otches name AND The Queen will get her panties in a bunch!!!!

  33. I've never purchased a pattern from you (yet!) but I think you are extremely talented! Some humans - from children to adults - are threatened by others' talents and they cope by putting those people down instead of encouraging them. I'm over the drama. Time move on and keep those creative juices flowing!!! ~*~Lisa

  34. I've been gone for a few days and need to get caught up on whatever is goin on. Shoot, I don't even really know you - tho I have bought patterns on several occasions from you! Such great work. Such wonderful creativity.
I would say...................let this crap roll off your back. You know what you do. You know the job you do. You know how creative you are. These other "problem people" must be simple minded indeed!!!!!!!
I love every little pattern book you put out........and love to see all your stitching and hooking endeavours!
KUDOS to you for speaking up. You have quite a client base and a friend base!!!!!! And those of us who are not known to you - still hold you in great regard.
Jeez..........these "problem people" need to get a life and leave yours alone!
    Ter'e

  35. Robin, don't underestimate your designs. You are extremely talented. Sometimes people get "a little big for their britches" and forget that they too had to start somewhere. Don't let such "simple minded" remarks get the best of you. You go girl and keep on creating. Your turn will definitely come. In the meantime, I will continue to collect and create your patterns, as I'm sure a lot of your followers will do the same!!!

  36. Oh, my, I think you are just as good as other doll designers, and deserve the same respect. It is a shame that some people do steal. It's like trying to stop internet hacking and such, there seems no end to it all. Hopefully, someday all piracy will be stopped.

I love your designs, they are so original, and I love your finished good as much...I own 2 of your dolls and they sooo well made and so primitive...

anyway...what bull and don't you pay any mind to it...people who say cruel things like this are just jealous...
